There may be a lot more events like the Grafton Lions Club’s annual beer and wine tasting than when the fundraiser first started, but that doesn’t mean that the club is any less passionate about the event.
“The event was started to do something that was a little bit unique, and beer tastings weren’t as prevalent as they are now,” said Lions Club beer tasting committee member Mike Cibulka. “There’s so many beer-tasting events now, so it can be tough to keep it fresh, but as long as we can keep raising funds and supporting good causes, we’ll keep at it.”
The 15th annual Beer and Wine Tasting is set for 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Circle B Recreation, 6261 Highway 60, Cedarburg. The event raises funds for the club’s primary mission of providing free vision screenings for North Shore and Milwaukee-area youth.
“They typically do that through the public school system and not necessarily just Grafton, but also the Milwaukee-metro area,” Cibulka said.
In addition to eye tests, the nearly $2,500 raised annually by the event is also distributed among causes such as the American Diabetes Association and local Little League baseball.
Vendors at this year’s event for the Grafton Lions will include several well-known breweries, including New Glarus, Milwaukee Brewing Co. and Goose Island, as well as some more hyper-local contributors such as the Fermentorium of Cedarburg.
In addition to beer, guests can also enjoy local wines and even local spirits from such companies as The Shinery from Cedarburg and Van Drastic Vodka from Cedar Grove.
“What we’re trying to do is still a beer-tasting, but what we’re trying to do is appeal to a wider audience,” Cibulka said.
The evening’s festivities will also include hors d’oeuvres, raffles and a new meat auction.
“Kroger Foods is donating meats to be auctioned off. It will be things like choice cuts of meats, steaks, prime rib, ribeyes, big slabs of bacon,” Cibulka said. “Hopefully it will fetch a lot of interest.”
Tickets for the tasting event are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Tickets are available for advance purchase at Circle B Recreation, U.S. Bank Grafton, the Rose-Harms American Legion Post and from Grafton Lions Club members.
